A Graphic Designer's Guide To The Pioneer 10 Plaque
July 17, 2009

We mentioned earlier this month that Jamie was doing a talk for the ilovedesign people, as part of series called 8x8 – and that talk is now available to view online.

You can see Jamie eloquently talk about the Pioneer 10 Plaque, a piece of information design strapped to a NASA space probe whilst looking like he's auditioning for Tomorrow's World. We think he should definitely get the job.

Go to www.ilovedesign.com and learn something, it's only nine minutes long – just time for a cup of tea and a Digestive.

Airplot comes alive at Glastonbury
July 14, 2009

Greenpeace just sent us this photo of the Airplot logo, as designed by Airside, in planted version at the recent Glastonbury festival.

If you haven't heard of Airplot already, it's a campaign to prevent the third runway being built at Heathrow. It’s not a campaign against flying, but against the expansion of airports around the UK. Britons already fly more than any other nation on earth and around a fifth of flights to Heathrow are to places you can easily reach by train.

Visit the Airplot website to learn more, see who's supporting it, and watch a short film. As Vivienne Westwood eloquently said on Jonathan Ross' show last Friday, we need to get passionate about climate change now, it's a wonderful planet we inhabit.

(Shown here: the planted Airplot logo above with the original design below)

As part of the current Super Contemporary exhibition, a series of talks have been organised by the Design Museum and next Friday, 24th July, is Airside's turn.

As well as the talk, it's entirely possible that Fred Deakin will play some music afterwards.

Tickets can be purchased from the Design Museum website. Venue size limited so don't dilly dally!

12 steps to being green
July 02, 2009

Airside's Nat, who is also Three Trees' Nat, has been asked to write a column for Grafik magazine about how to encourage graphic designers to become greener in their practices.

Her first column appears in the current issue of Grafik, July 2009, simply entitled "How to be green" which looks at the impact you have as a graphic designer on the wider world.

Over the next 12 issues, Nat will spell it out in the simplest way she knows how, giving practical advice and inviting questions. Read and learn. Then do something about it...
