Vitsoe en francais

January 29, 2010

Our good friends at Vitsœ have just launched a French-language version of their award winning Airside-designed website.

The launch coincides with the shelving system's temporary residence at renowned Paris design store, colette, where a dedicated Vitsœ planner is on hand to discuss the finer points of the 606 Universal Shelving System, until Saturday 30 January.

The store is also hosting a selection of vintage Dieter Rams Braun designs and an A0 poster featuring the Vitsœ designer's famous 10 Principles of Design is on sale. The poster is also available to purchase at Vitsœ's online shop.

Rams recently featured in Design Week's Hot 50 2010 honour roll of people making a difference in design.

Watch Alex at Virgin 'Red Hot Talks'

January 28, 2010

Last year, Alex took part in Virgin's 'Red Hot Talks' series, part of the New Designers exhibition held at London’s Business Design Centre. Alex (and an unusually quiet Anne) made the short hike across the road from Airside's Islington studio to talk to students about design process and innovation. The event was filmed by Gleeds TV and is now available to watch online.

Airside has worked with Virgin Atlantic on a number of occasions, designing products for the in-flight comfort pack, coffee cups and napkins, as well as wallpaper for the upper class lounges of Virgin Australia planes. In his talk, Alex discusses the design process for these products, showing initial mood boards and sketches. He also highlights the benefits of working with a company like Virgin, who understand the "value of design".

He also, rather mischievously, shows our branding work for Airplot – Greenpeace’s campaign to halt the construction of a third runway at Heathrow Airport. His point is to demonstrate how Airside’s environmental commitment means we look to make a difference everywhere, especially when working with other companies, like Virgin Atlantic, who share our commitment to green issues.

January 27, 2010

This Friday, 29 January 2010, London's St Bride Library is hosting a one-day conference: Design For Music: Music and Design. The event will explore the relationship between music and design, from album sleeves to animations, and identities to merchandise. The line-up of speakers features Big Active, Adrian Shaughnessy, Kate Moross and our own Fred Deakin.

Fred, who won a 2007 European Design Award for the artwork of his Triptych mix album, will be talking about the future of music design and "the value of physical music in an online, eco-savvy world". Fred will also take part in a panel discussion on the legacy of renowned designer Barney Bubbles, also featuring Bubbles' biographer Paul Gorman.
