High Court backing, but Airplot still needs your help.

March 31, 2010

Greenpeace's Airplot campaign to halt the expansion of Heathrow Airport recently received a major boost when the High Court ruled that Government plans for a third runway were "untenable in law and common sense". Lord Justice Carnwath advised that the Government should revisit its entire aviation policy in light of the 2008 Climate Change Act, and questioned basing the economic case for a third runway, solely on a 2003 Air Transport white paper.

Greenpeace, and their coalition allies who brought the case before the High Court, claimed this was a significant decision that would force the current and next governments to scrap the plans. They also hailed the influence of their Airplot campaign, which bought a plot of land in the middle of the new runway's proposed site, and hope that the ruling will inspire more people to sign up as beneficial owners.

The total number of Airplot owners currently stands at 73,000 but they still hope to reach their target of 100,000 in order to increase the public pressure behind the campaign.

Join the plot.

Give the gift of gardening

March 12, 2010

When not ruthlessly controlling costs and maintaining ledgers with quill and ink, Airside bookkeeper Aimée moonlights as part of A Studio For Design, a London-based company with an enthusiasm for creating unique gifts for thoughtful givers. They have recently released their first product, a fantastic combination of gift and greeting card called Postcarden.

Postcarden is a fun and simple way to grow a mini-garden on your desktop, windowsill or sideboard. Choose from one of three backdrop designs, each of which also features a specially commissioned illustration, and watch your cress seeds grow in a matter of days.

Postcarden makes it easy to give the gift of gardening to a loved one. The set, featuring cardboard backdrop, growing tray, cress seeds and instructions, can be sent in the post for the price of a regular large letter stamp.

Airside Shop: Relaunching Soon!

March 05, 2010

You may have noticed that our t-shirt and print emporium, Airside Shop, is currently closed for renovations. After our recent run-in with hackers, we took the Shop offline while we ensured our customer's information was secure from the prying eyes of these irritating teenagers. While doing this we started to discuss some ideas for the future of Airside Shop.

The result of our discussions is that Airside Shop is now undergoing a dramatic overhaul and will be re-launched very shortly. In the meantime you can still buy our 2010 Calendar, Stitches and limited edition Prints at our Etsy Shop. We're also happy to take any direct orders for our old stock. Check out our holding page for more info and how to get in touch.

BBC announces plans to axe Asian Network

March 02, 2010

The BBC has recently announced plans to axe a number of its digital radio stations, including BBC Asian Network and 6Music, as part of its Strategy Review.

Airside has recently been working with BBC Asian Network to help redesign their website, and we would like to express our support to all our friends over there during this difficult period.

The BBC Strategy Review proposes that the Asian Network cease as a national digital service, though it could be replaced with a network of local services, with reduced hours. The Strategy Review now enters a three-month consultation period with the BBC Trust, so there is still a chance to save the Asian Network if enough public support is expressed in the interim.

You can find more information on the consultation process and how to have your say here.

You can also join the Save The BBC Asian Network Facebook group, or sign this petition.
