Moblin
The Brief
Moblin is a new Linux-based Operating System (OS) specifically designed for Netbooks - small, lightweight laptops. Moblin approached Airside to help promote the benefits of their product to Netbook manufacturers, who could sell their machines with Moblin pre-installed as the default OS.The brief was to create a number of information films that could be played during presentations and at trade shows, as well as featuring on the Moblin website. Although the target audience is primarily manufacturers, Moblin also wanted the films to appeal to the end customer in order to create awareness and stimulate demand for Moblin as a standard pre-installed OS.
Our Solution
Moblin came to Airside without an exact idea of what they wanted beyond the basic brief. Therefore Airside’s first task was for our content and design teams to host a Moblin workshop.Working with their campaign team, Airside established what information needed to be communicated, how many films were required and then came up with the concepts for each one. As these ideas took shape, our designers started working on the visual elements, so the script and design informed each other throughout the process.
We decided to create two short animations – one, a basic introduction to Moblin, the second a character-based film showing the benefits of Moblin in everyday life. Airside’s content team wrote both scripts, while the designers created characters and a world that suited the visual style of Moblin.
After the animation was completed, Airside commissioned the soundtrack, sound fx and voice-over.
